All NIH visitors must go through a security clearance at the NIH Gateway Center to receive a visitor's badge. Visitors are required to pass through a metal detector and have bags/purses inspected or x-rayed. All visitors must present a government-issued photo ID to enter the campus.

Public Transportation
The Washington D.C. Metrorail system has a Red Line station on the NIH campus called "Medical Center." Upon exiting the station, it is a short walk to the NIH campus shuttle, which will take you to NIH buildings on the main campus and in Rockville.

Metrorail service is available from Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport and from Union Station (railway). Take Metro's Red Line to the Medical Center Station.

For more information, visit Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority and NIH Campus Shuttle Schedules.

The Lister Hill Auditorium (Building 38A) is located on the NIH main campus. Visitor parking is limited, so take public transportation, if possible. From the Metro exit proceed to the NIH Gateway Center for security clearance. The Lister Hill Auditorium is located a short distance behind the Gateway Center, adjacent to the National Library of Medicine. See http://www.nih.gov/about/visitor for more information.

The estimated fares (one-way) from the three local airports to Lister Hill are:

  • Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA): up to $90*
  • Dulles International Airport (IAD): up to 86*
  • Baltimore/Washington International Airport (BWI): up to $97*

*This rate changes based on traffic/time of day.

Several hotels in the Bethesda/Rockville area are convenient to the meeting and located close to Metrorail's Red Line.
